Troop Finances

Up

Annual Registration

Each September the Troop collects the annual registration fee.   The fee is $30.00 for returning Scouts and $35.00 for new Scouts.

This fee includes the annual registration for the scout, a one year subscription to Boy's Life, and for new scouts a copy of the Boy Scout Handbook and a Troop 70 neckerchief.  Each Scout and leader are covered by a broad coverage accident insurance policy that includes going to and from troop meetings, camp, and other Scouting activities.

Dues

Dues are collected each meeting (25 cents each week) This is to encourage habits of regular thrift and as a citizen to make a contribution to the organization to which he belongs. Dues are to be paid weekly, not in lump sum. Dues are payable even if the Scout misses the meeting.

Fund Raising

The Troop has one major fund raising project each year,  the sale of Christmas greenery.  During October each Scout takes orders for items such as wreaths, garlands, and decorator kits.  Then in early December (5-10) the greenery is delivered to the Troop and distributed to the Scouts.   The Scouts in turn deliver the greenery to the person ordering.

Funds are collected upon delivery and turned in to the Troop.  Each Scout is expected to sell $350 to fund his participation in the Troop.  The Scouts received a commission for greenery sold in excess of $350.

The proceeds are generally sufficient so no other sources of funds are needed.  This allows the Troop to focus on Scouting the remainder of the year.

Use of Troop Monies

The Troop provides the camping gear for each patrol.  The equipment includes tents, lanterns, patrol boxes, cooking utensils, axes, and other items.   In addition, literature, advancement awards, merit badges awards, program materials, publications, newsletters, and periodic mailings are provided by the Troop.

Every four years, the Boy Scouts of America hold a National Jamboree.  Troop 70 is the only troop in the country to have attended every National Jamboree beginning with the jamboree in 1950.   This enviable record earned Troop 70 it's nickname, "The Jamboree Troop".   Each Troop 70 scout who wants to attend is welcome.  Proceeds from the greenery sales allow the troop to pays approximately one-half of the cost of the trip for the boys.  The most recent National Jamboree trip included 5 touring days in Philadelphia, New York, and Washington, D.C. and ten days at the Jamboree in Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia.  The cost of the trip was $1,500 per scout of which the Troop paid $750.  The Troop had 59 boys and leaders participate in the jamboree.

Council Donations

Each year Circle Ten Council conducts a fund raising campaign.   Parents are strongly encouraged to contribute to the council.  We encouraged each family to make what ever  contribution to the council they feel appropriate.  Without the services provided by the Circle Ten Council, the Troop could not operate and there would be no summer camp.  When you make a contribution to the Council, you are investing in the future leaders of our country.
